July 20th marks the 40th anniversary of the first manned mission to land on the moon. Lowell Observatory will celebrate this significant date with a special program at 7:00 p.m., Flagstaff Goes to the Moon, presented by Outreach Manager Kevin Schindler. In the 1960s, Flagstaff was an important site for preparing to go to the moon. Thousands of individuals contributed to moon mapping, astronaut training and instrument testing. In addition to this presentation, explore the Flagstaff Goes to the Moon exhibit in the Rotunda. Numerous telescopes will also be set up for viewing celestial objects.
