SORCE meeting, part 1

February 5, 2008 – 8:30 am

Hi everyone,

I’m blogging this morning from the main meeting room at the SORCE (SOlar Radiation and Climate Experiment) Science meeting in Santa Fe, NM. SORCE is a satellite observatory that makes, among other things, measurements of the Sun’s total brightness on an ongoing basis. The topic of this meeting is solar variations and their influence on climate. The meeting lasts through Thursday at noon, and it is a really interesting agenda. I’ll blog a bit over the next few days with what I’ve learned from the talks. And, I’ll be giving a talk myself about some of our observations of Sun-like stars on Wednesday afternoon.

Random notes: It’s looking like a nice sunny day in Santa Fe, which is nice, since we drove through a semi-blizzard on I-40 going into Albuquerque yesterday to get here. The hotel is one of those where the rooms are divided into about forty little buildings, all with artful paths meandering through them. Walking back from dinner in the snow last night, I got totally turned around and took about five dead ends before I found my darn door. It was like being in some adventure game.

OK, the first talk is just about to start, so I’ll chime in later this afternoon or tonight with an update.
