Pluto Walk Is Updated
November 27, 2007 – 10:35 amA popular activity while visiting Lowell Observatory is a stroll along the Pluto Walk. This 350-foot-long path is a scale model of the Solar System, compressing units of distance and size to an understandable level.
It has been several years since the descriptive signs along the Pluto Walk were last revised, and in that time, we have learned much about the Solar System. Last year, we received funding from The City of Flagstaff and Flagstaff Cultural Partners to bring the signs up to date. Combining the most up-to-date understanding of our Solar System with images gathered from the Hubble Space Telescope and various spacecraft, we just finished revising the signs.
Each major Solar System body now has two signs; one displays a large image of the body, along with important physical characteristics, while the second sign lists a couple “fun facts”, along with relevant images.
The Pluto Walk is a great place for families to learn about our Solar System and understand the incredible distances and sizes associated with space.

One Response to “Pluto Walk Is Updated”
The Pluto Walk although not mentioned in the tour that I went on, was truly the most fun. If you get a chance, walking the scaled solar system is as fun as it is educational. A MUST SEE.
