Lowell LogoThe DCT First Light Challenge

Lowell Observatory gratefully acknowledges the vision and commitment
of two couples who have made this challenge possible.

Mr. and Mrs. John Giovale

John and Ginger Giovale have graciously offered up to $400,000 in support of this challenge. John is a long-time member of Lowell Observatory's Advisory Board, and is a former chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board. Now retired from a career with W. L. Gore, John and Ginger reside in Flagstaff and are active in many philanthropic endeavors. Lowell Observatory is fortunate to have such generous individuals among its supporters, and we thank them for this new commitment to our mission.

Dr. and Mrs. Robert Millis

Bob and Julie Millis will contribute up to $100,000 to the challenge. They have been part of Lowell Observatory for over 40 years; Bob has served as the Observatory's Director since 1988, and has been the primary staff member at Lowell in moving the DCT project forward. The Lowell family is indebted to Bob and Julie for their dedication to the institution and for this personal commitment to the DCT.

Lowell Observatory will complete the DCT on time and on budget. As a sign of this commitment, the First Light Challenge originates from key members of our Board and staff. Join us and make this unique telescope available to the astronomical community and - through our partnership with Discovery Communications - to the public.
